The Yankees are dealing with yet another potential injury scare, as the team said Friday that Anthony Rizzo was a late scratch from the lineup due to lat tightness.
Rizzo, who had been putting together a productive spring, had his season cut short in 2023 due to symptoms following a concussion suffered in May. He tried to play through it and struggled mightily before being shut down. He also has battled back troubles since coming to New York.
The Yankees, who are already without Gerrit Cole for two months, just got Aaron Judge back from an abs issue, and are waiting to see if DJ LeMahieu's bone bruise will heal in time for Opening Day next week.
The move to bench Rizzo could be precautionary, but lat injuries do have the potential to linger.
