The Yankees, according to SNY’s Andy Martino, are expected to have a busy January with at least one more “impactful addition” that could include reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.
Per Martino, the lefty has “privately expressed an interest” in signing with the Yanks, though it is unclear the Yankees’ level of interest in Snell, who has both AL East and World Series experience from his time with the rival Rays.
Snell would give the Yanks both Cy Young winners from last season in the same rotation, as Gerrit Cole remains the ace, but concerns linger about Snell’s high walk rate, which drives up pitch counts and potentially taxes the bullpen while adding traffic on the basepaths. Still, Snell is one of the top pitchers left on the free agent market after both Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers.
The Yankees have reportedly also discussed a potential Jordan Montgomery reunion, but Montgomery’s interest in returning to the Bronx is unclear.
