Boomer & Gio: Giancarlo Stanton still 'looks like he's lost'
Gio said the Yankee fan couldn’t have drawn up a more exciting Opening Day after the Bombers erased a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 in Houston, typically a house of horrors for the Bombers in years past.
But one area of concern for Gio, and Boomer as well, was the look of Giancarlo Stanton at the plate.
“Giancarlo Stanton has to get his act together,” Gio said. “This guy looks like he’s lost still.
“That Josh Hader/Giancarlo Stanton matchup, I don’t think I’ve seen a Major League Baseball player miss a fastball by the amount that he missed it. Not like late or early, just where his bat was and where the ball was. You could actually see a tremendous gap in between.”
Stanton is known for his success against lefties, but that wasn’t the case on Thursday. He struck out twice, both against lefties, and his single was an infield single that rolled down the third base line and hit the bag to stay fair. It was one game, but it was hardly inspiring for Boomer and Gio.
“Anything low and away, he was just whiffing at,” Boomer said. “He was guessing.”
