Boomer & Gio: Has Anthony Rizzo played his final games with Yankees?

As the Yankees get closer to full strength in their lineup, with Giancarlo Stanton back in the fold, Boomer wonders what will become of Anthony Rizzo whenever he is cleared to return from a broken arm.

“Ben Rice has been so impressive, and Brian Cashman is singing his praises. Rizzo hasn’t been part of this team for what, six weeks?” Boomer said.

Gio doesn’t believe Rizzo will be much of a factor at all, considering he has been in an awful slump since suffering a concussion in May of last year. Rizzo likely still has another month until he’s ready to return, so it won’t be a worry for the Yanks for a while. But Gio also won’t rule out Rizzo having already taken his last at-bat as a Yankee.

“I would not be surprised if you just don’t see him play the rest of the year,” Gio said. “Maybe they give him one more chance, but at this point, with the lineup that they have…if Anthony Rizzo is gonna give you what he’s given you over the last year and a half…then why not keep the kid out there?

“He’s not going to be the everyday presence in the lineup that they expected him to be when they re-signed him.”
