Boomer & Gio will miss John Sterling calling Yankee games: 'He's a treasure'
Boomer and Gio made sure to take time out of Tuesday’s show to pay respect to John Sterling, who announced his retirement on Monday afternoon after calling more than 5,400 Yankee games since 1989.
“John deserves every bit of admiration and accolades he’s gonna get on Saturday,” Gio said. “I’m really gonna miss this. I can’t even imagine going through a full baseball season without him…as long as the baseball season is, he provided so many fun moments throughout the summer and the dead times.”
Boomer added that the duo of Sterling and Suzyn Waldman is synonymous with Yankee baseball, and things won’t be the same without Sterling giving his iconic home run calls and Yankee victories being declared with John’s “Theeeeee Yankees win” celebration.
“Those two have been an iconic broadcasting duo. I don’t know how else you can say it,” Boomer said.
“He’s a treasure.”
