Boomer: Calls for Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone's job look 'asinine' after Yankees clinch ALCS berth

The Yankees are moving on to the ALCS, and Boomer, who has maintained his belief that the Yanks are World Series bound, says Thursday’s clinching win is a chance for fans to take a breath and celebrate a series victory.

“All this stuff about getting rid of Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman in the middle of august looks asinine now,” Boomer said. “This team may have a flaw or two, but every team does, and they are right where they’re supposed to be.

“It may not be the prettiest situation…but they’re exactly where they should be.”

There was indeed plenty of midsummer discourse in the Bronx when the Yanks were struggling for an extended period, and some of that even resurfaced after Monday’s game two loss in the Bronx. But the Yankees did just enough to take a crucial game three, and on Thursday night, Gerrit Cole made sure that the Yanks were heading back to the Bronx to await their ALCS opponent, not to prepare for a do-or-die game five.

“That was the performance that you needed,” Boomer said of Cole. “He came up big when you needed him to come up big.”

There was even concern about Cole after he was shaky in the series opener, but those concerns can be calmed after his dominant game four outing. For Boomer, a lot of the worry and frustration surrounding the Yanks should be calmed after Thursday’s win.

“The tipping point spot has now been handled,” Boomer said. “We’re celebrating the fact that they are where they’re supposed to be, even if it’s not in the way that Yankee fans wanted.”
