Aaron Boone’s frustration boiled over during another Yankee loss on Monday night, as the manager was tossed for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Laz Diaz.
The latest Boone ejection was particularly noteworthy, as Boone drew a line in the dirt well off home plate to signal where he felt strikes were being called all night, then proceeded to mock Diaz’s punchout gesture.
Boomer believed the tirade from Boone was a justified reaction to what was poor umpiring, and what has been a frustrating season for the Yankees.
“This is why coaches berate officials,” Boomer said. “Their job is on the line.
“I don’t blame him. I really don’t.”
Boomer has voiced his disbelief that Boone has been able to keep this Yankees team above .500 despite key injuries, but with the team falling out of the race, he believes Boone’s tirade reflected the sentiment of Yankee fans as their club is in serious danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in seven years.
“That was a reflection of every single Yankee fan and how they’ve felt about their team all season long,” Boomer said.
