Boomer: Yankees recent power surge setting up familiar, disappointing ending to season

The Yankees have won four games in a row, and their seemingly insurmountable deficit in the AL East has been cut to 5.5 games amid the Rays coming back down to earth.

As the final week in May begins, the Yanks are leading the league in home runs for the month, seemingly finding the offense that was sorely lacking early on.

But for Boomer, it seems to be a familiar script playing out, setting up for disappointment later in the season.

“They’re winning and everyone’s all excited and happy, then they get to the playoffs, and they don’t hit the home runs,” Boomer said.

“It’s a lot like watching the same movie over and over again, and I do that - ”

Gio had to stop Boomer right there.

“But you like the ending to those movies,” Gio said. “I don’t think Yankee fans like the ending to this movie.

“They don’t hit the home runs, the offense shuts down, everybody screams and yells about how Brian Cashman needs to be fired, they don’t do any of that, they bring back the same team, rinse and repeat.”

The Yankees will hold out hope that this season will be different, and come October, the team will be healthy and hitting home runs like it’s May.
