Aaron Boone told reporters on Tuesday that he wouldn’t rule out moving Aaron Judge to left field so Giancarlo Stanton could get reps in right field, which has been a challenge for the oft-injured slugger since 2018.
At the mere sound of Boone’s comments, Boomer couldn’t help but scoff.
“They’re athletes,” Boomer said. “Stanton says he is more engaged when he is playing the field. Let him play left field where he belongs.
“Let’s try not to miss 50 games. You’re an athlete. Let’s go play. I don’t want to hear about load management and all this. Go play. Let’s go. I’m just gonna have an aneurysm right now. I’m telling you. I want everybody to be like Cal Ripken. Just show up and play.”
Stanton, in the midst of a $325 million deal, played just 38 games in the outfield last season, the most since his debut season with the Yanks in 2018. A potential move to right field, his natural position with the Marlins, would give Stanton less ground to cover in front of the short porch at Yankee Stadium, but Boomer doesn’t understand why he can’t stay healthy and just take a spot in left field, and leave right for Judge.
“You’re off for six months,” Boomer said. “When I look at their training camps, I know that they’re doing things, but there’s a lot of walking around. Lot of spitting sunflower seeds on the field.”
