Amid reports that the Yankees may prioritize getting under the top luxury tax tier at the trade deadline, Boomer ripped the idea of the franchise penny-pinching while their games are littered with ads around Yankee Stadium, and now on their jersey sleeves with their new Starr Insurance partnership.
“If you count the ad on the mound, and the YES app in the corner of the broadcast, there are 13 ads behind home plate,” Boomer said. “Between the Starr patch on the sleeve and the 45,000 people that show up, and Hal Steinbrenner is not going over the luxury tax? It’s ridiculous. They are making so much money.
“They jam in advertising, I’ve never seen anything like it. The wall behind home plate gives me vertigo.”
Needless to say, if the Yankees look to shed salary at the deadline, Boomer is not going to be happy about it.
