Josh Donaldson banged a long RBI single off the wall in Monday’s win over the Twins, a rare triumph at the plate in what has otherwise been a long season for the 36-year-old.
But it could have been a double and extended the inning, had the third baseman not taken a second to admire the ball in flight and been thrown out at second base.
Donaldson was seen laughing at the hot corner after making the third out on the bases, which was something Boomer didn’t like at all.
“I’m not a Yankee fan, but I do respect certain players that play the game,” Boomer said. “That’s why I’ve always been a Jeter supporter, and an Aaron Judge supporter.
“Josh Donaldson has had ups and downs all over the place…and you’re jacking around and getting into problems with the White Sox earlier in the year, and you get thrown out at second base and then the next thing you see he’s laughing at third base.”
Boomer says Donaldson needs to be held accountable, and is sure he would be had he been playing in a different era.
“Is Aaron Boone gonna say anything?” Boomer said. You know how they always say ‘This is what George would do?’ I bet you if Billy Martin were manager of the New York Yankees, he would pull Josh Donaldson off the field.
“It’s embarrassing...watching the game yesterday, that pissed me off. If I had him in here, I’d say ‘Josh, you gotta get your head out of your ass.’”
