Boomer says Yankees need to go 16-6 in upcoming stretch: 'They have to. They can't fall off'

The Yankees have surged to the league’s best record thanks to a nine-game winning streak against some bad ballclubs, and from now until Memorial Day, they will have a chance to beat up on some other inferior opponents.

“I swear, Major League Baseball did this to make sure the Yankees are relevant in the second half of the season so Brian Cashman can go make some trades,” Boomer said during Monday’s show before laying out the road ahead for the Bombers. “They have five games out of the next 22 games against the Toronto Blue Jays…so they have those five games. If you can go 3-2 in those games, don’t want to get greedy. Then you have three against Texas, bottom feeders, then seven against the White Sox, not really bottom feeders but have a losing record right now, then seven more with the Orioles.”

The Blue Jays, who the Yanks visit beginning Monday night, is certainly a tough test, but the White Sox have been hit hard by injuries, the Rangers are last in the AL West despite their offseason additions, and the Orioles continue to be one of the worst teams in all of baseball. With that in mind, Boomer says the Yanks have to capitalize on this upcoming stretch, and win at least 16 of these next 22 games.

“From now, May 2 to May 25, there will be 22 games in the schedule,” Boomer said. “I’m thinking out of these next 22 games, I’m gonna say 16-6. They have to. They cannot fall off…this will determine whether or not you win your division. You have to win the bulk of these games. I would say 16-6, 17-5 is realistic, for a team that’s been 9-0 and beating up on the trash in the league.”

Boomer also made sure to mention that when it comes to these kinds of predictions and analysis, he typically on the money.

“I’m usually right about this.”
