Who are the Yankees? Boomer still thinks they're a team built for October

If the Yankees were going to have a game like last night’s, it’s either incredibly encouraging or incredibly frustrating – with no in-between – that it happened against a Guardians team with similar standing that they may see in the postseason.

Clean a few things up and it’s a much different result, and yeah, we’re in business, but that’s the thing: who ARE the Yankees?

“With the Yankees, I still, after dissecting this team, taking the calls, and going through the entire summer and spring…if they got knocked out immediately in the postseason or they won the World Series, neither one of those things would surprise me,” Gio said. “I don't know who they are or what they are, or how they're going to play in the biggest moments. I have no clue, and I don't even think the fan base has any idea. If the playoffs started tomorrow, I'd be just as surprised, or not surprised, if they won the World Series as if they got swept.”

“I think of the great Dennis Green, coaching for the Arizona Cardinals playing against the Chicago Bears on a Monday night, and we cannot attribute that statement towards any of these teams around here,” Boomer shot back.

Ah yes, Green’s famous “they are who we thought they were, and we let them off the hook!” quip…which, yeah, is just not something New York baseball fits right now…but hey, it can still get better!

“We don't know who they are, but I'd like to think that I have been steadfast in my support of the fans out there, and their beloved New York Yankees,” Boomer said. “I have tried to support them, tried to say they’re making the World Series…and I am NOT backing off of that just because of one lousy stretch. I kind of know who they are: with Soto and Judge in there, I know who they are. This is a team that's built for October. That's all I'm gonna tell you.”
