Many Yankee fans, and baseball fans as a whole, were ripping Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner after their talks with reporters at Tuesday’s GM Meetings, but Boomer didn’t side with those critics.
In fact, he commended Steinbrenner specifically for his responses, as Steinbrenner made it clear that the team’s performance in 2023 was unacceptable.
“I’d like to say thank you to Hal Steinbrenner for being honest and giving straight answers,” Boomer said. “We’re always screaming and yelling at these guys for never giving straight answers, and he gave you a straight answer.
“He listened to many people, and I think that was a well thought-out answer.”
As for Cashman, Boomer noted the clear change in tone from the general manager, and believes Cashman is simply fed up with the criticism that has been thrown his way in recent years.
“I think he is sick and tired of being ridiculed up and down and all over the place,” Boomer said.
Gio also didn’t mind Cashman getting fiery on Tuesday, and in fact saw it as a welcomed sight in comparison to what he usually hears when the GM is behind a microphone.
“Brian Cashman’s press conferences are the worst. I make fun of them all the time,” Gio said. “This was great. The only thing he did though was put a massive target on his back this offseason and this season.”
