Brian Cashman pushes back on idea that Yankees are too reliant on Aaron Judge

The Yankee offense once again failed to score more than three runs without Aaron Judge, but came away with a win on Tuesday night thanks to another masterful outing from ace Gerrit Cole.

Still, the lineup without Judge remains a major concern, as it has produced some of the worst collective stats in baseball since Judge landed on the IL. But Brian Cashman isn’t sharing in that concern, at least not for the long haul.

Asked if the Yankees could keep the ship afloat if Judge is out through the All-Star break, Cashman expressed belief in his group.

“Yes. We have a lot of professional hitters, a lot of really good quality hitters that are capable of a lot of great things,” Cashman said. “We’re not going to do any trading to replace Judge. Ultimately, we’ve just got to wait for him to get back. In the meantime, we’ve definitely got a lot of guys that are more than capable of doing great things for us. We just need that. We’re missing it right now, but it'll come around.”

Asked if the Yankee lineup is too reliant on Judge, and his absence his highlighting an overreliance, Cashman pushed back.

“No, I don’t,” Cashman said. “Judge is a big piece, don’t get me wrong. You’re obviously going to feel it when he’s not in it…but we have a lot of professional hitters here.
Some of those guys are more than capable of doing great things, Judge-like things for a period of time…we have hitters that are more than capable, but right now, they’re just struggling.”

Also asked if he was OK with the current lineup’s offensive approach, which had contributed to scarce run scoring during a recent four-game losing skid, Cashman again reinforced his belief in the current Bomber bats.

“Am I happy with their approach? I'm happy with their commitment, I'm happy with their care,” Cashman said. “Ultimately, I know I'll be happy with their end results.”
