As Keith watches Bryce Harper continue to tear up the postseason and lead the Phillies towards the World Series, the thoughts of what could have been with Harper in the Bronx are relentless.
But Harper is thriving in Philly, and that ship has sailed. So, Keith is turning his attention towards the player that made the Nationals deem Harper expendable when he became a free agent in 2018.
“This time around, you can’t make a mistake. You can’t miss,” Keith said. “You damn sure better call A.J. Preller…leave no stone unturned.
“‘How do we get Juan Soto, with that left-handed power bat, into Yankee Stadium and solve our left field problem?’”
Keith was sick watching the Yankees’ left field disaster this season, which included Aaron Hicks, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Jake Bauers, and other journeyman and out-of-position platoon players. He says it’s time to get a mainstay out there, and a trade for Soto would be the perfect fit.
“Brian Cashman, we are all waiting on you this winter,” Keith said. “This is the reality check he needed. And this is his mulligan. You’ve missed on left field Joey Gallo, Andrew Benintendi, and put a cast of characters in left field that don’t even play the position. Go see what they want, go get that man, put him in left field, in New York, on the main stage.”
