Sal opened Tuesday’s show throwing cold water on the excitement of Yankee fans for the upcoming season by calling Juan Soto a “goner,” but BT wasn’t going to let that get to him.
He was too busy fantasizing about watching Soto and Aaron Judge bat back-to-back in the Yankee lineup, a duo that he says will be the best pinstriped pairing since arguably the greatest hitting duo of all time.
“I remember well [Don] Mattingly and [Dave] Winfield, and I’m sure before that Reggie [Jackson] and [Thurman] Munson or Reggie [Jackson] and [Graig] Nettles, and obviously versions of A-Rod and someone else, whether it was [Mark] Teixeira, or Bernie [Williams] and Paul O’Neill,” BT said. “This is the greatest, most potent, most historically amazing duo based on their stats on paper, coming into a season that the Yankees have said since Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth.”
“Anyone can challenge me on that. I don’t think there’s another option.”
Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio never quite played together in their primes, as DiMaggio was on his way out when Mantle arrived, though the Mantle/Roger Maris pairing in 1961 was a sight to behold. Still, BT says Judge and Soto will be a Yankee force not seen since Ruth and Gehrig, and one not seen in baseball as a whole in years.
“The absolute most dynamic 1-2 force in baseball,” BT said. “Not just this year, in a long time.”
