Brandon Tierney ripped the Yankees for going public with the team’s preseason contract offer to Aaron Judge on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, he pondered that it will be the reason Judge leaves in free agency.
“I just don’t know if he wants to stay here,” BT said. “I do think the Yankees have an incredibly competitive offer. I don’t think they’ll go the cheap route with Judge, but I also feel like at this point, in my gut, he goes to the Giants.
“At that point I think the only way you can fault the Yankees is for not getting it done earlier and planting a seed of discontent on Opening Day that may have fractured the relationship forever when Cashman, for some dumb reason, divulged the details of the contract offer, which should have never happened. That’s the vision that I see.”
Judge has voiced his desire to be a Yankee, but also acknowledges that he is now a free agent, which means he is open to hearing other offers from other teams. BT thinks it won’t end well for the Bombers, the only team Judge has known as a pro.
“Wanting to stay here and being given enough incentive to sign your name for the rest of your career next to a franchise that has been on a treadmill and didn’t necessarily treat you the right way this year, with certain things,” BT said. “There’s a pathway for him to bounce, and I didn’t really see that a couple of months ago.”
Somewhat surprisingly, every member of the Tiki and Tierney show agreed with BT’s prediction, with the exception of Tiki.
