BT continues to voice his distrust in the Yankees because he doesn’t believe in the architect of the team, but even he will support Brian Cashman’s Cooperstown case.
“You’ve gotta be fair,” BT said to a frustrated Yankee fan who said Brian Cashman doesn’t deserve to go to the Hall of Fame. “I know [Bob] Watson and Stick Michael, how that team was constructed, but when you’re the general manager, and you win all those championships and get back there…you’re a Hall of Famer. You gotta be fair.”
Sal was in complete agreement, even if he believes that it is time for the Yankees to make a change. That still doesn’t take away from Cashman’s accomplishments as the longest tenured GM in baseball, sporting four World Series rings and six pennants as Yankees general manager.
“Just because you want to move on from a guy and think it’s time for a change, it doesn’t mean he sucks as a general manager,” Sal said. “It doesn’t mean the Yankees need to move on because he sucks. The track record shows that it doesn’t.
“I think it’s time for a new vision atop the Yankees organization, but it doesn’t mean Brian Cashman is not a Hall of Fame general manager.”
