BT and Sal agree that there are few weak spots on this Yankees roster, but if they were to try and address one at the trade deadline, it would be to part ways with Gleyber Torres.
“Year after year he does boneheaded things that cost you games,” Sal said. “In a postseason…every play counts. Him having a brain lock on the bases or in the field, could cost you. and they don’t need his offense.
“The only reason you were keeping Gleyber Torres on is because he was projected to be one of the best offensive second baseman in baseball. I’d rather have Peraza or LeMahieu, or go get a legit, cement defensive second baseman. A veteran who could put the bat on the ball…to me, it would be addition by subtraction moving on from Gleyber.”
Torres homered on Tuesday, but his season as a whole has been a struggle after being one of the team’s best bats in 2023. Many criticize his mental lapses on the bases and in the field, and BT, who has long advocated for trading Torres, says the Yanks should start there when fine-tuning the roster this summer.
“What offense? He doesn’t provide any,” BT said. “He’s hitting .225.”
