BT could be more 'intrigued' by Yankees future without Juan Soto than with him
As the Juan Soto sweepstakes heat up, Brandon Tierney is maintaining his stance that, while he wants Soto back in the Bronx, he believes there is the potential for a brighter future if the superstar signs elsewhere.
Noting Soto’s deficiencies in the field and on the bases, and the potential ludicrous contract figures it may take to retain him, BT says that money could be spent on addressing multiple roster needs without being tied down by a bad contract in a decade, when Soto is in his upper 30s.
“I view him as somebody I want to stay. I don’t view him as indispensable,” BT said. “From a baseball perspective, I think both teams can recover if they don’t get him.
“[The Yankees] are a two-man team, and their two guys were two superheroes. This ain’t basketball.”
BT sees the Yankees needing help at first base and third base as well as an outfield spot and pitching depth, and if the Yankees use the money they would have spent on Soto to address all of those other needs, then that is a future that potentially gives him more hope for the franchise than signing Soto.
“If the Mets weren’t involved...let’s say he went to another team. Taking the Mets out of it, I’m more intrigued by a future without Soto than with Soto,” BT said. “It’s me identifying how many holes they truly have that were apparent too many times this year. By giving it all to one guy, it’s the same team with a ton of deficiencies.
“In my mind, there are multiple ways to build a team. I sincerely mean that.”
