Gleyber Torres worked a walk in his lone pinch-hit appearance during Wednesday’s loss to the Mets, but that didn’t stop a caller from angrily demanding that the Yankees cut ties with the veteran infielder, and BT was in complete agreement.
“Gleyber Torres can take a hike,” BT said. “He can take his bags and keep walking, because there is no way I’m giving him big money, and there’s no way I trust him. He is a lazy, non-winning player. Period. Try to refute that. Just watch him play.
“The half-assed throws…half-assed on the bases, and he just hasn’t gotten better.”
Taking it a step further, BT says Torres represents the characteristics that have held the Yankees back in the Baby Bomber era, and that Torres hasn’t improved in any facet of the game since breaking into the league with back-to-back All-Star selections.
“He is a symbol of what has been wrong with these Yankees. Not the main one, but a symbol of what the Yankees have become,” BT said. “A little entitled, not enough production, not enough grit.
“Those 96 Yankees, 98 Yankees…they would have said, ‘We’re not rolling with this guy.’ O’Neill, Posada, Jeter, ‘This guy isn’t cut from what we’re cut from.’”
