BT has been largely critical of Brian Cashman in recent years, while C-Mac has been known for sticking by the Yankees GM, defending him against many critics who say he should have been let go years ago.
So, when the two hosted together on Wednesday, it took just minutes for BT to grill C-Mac about being “a Cashman apologist.”
C-Mac wasted no time defending his stance.
“Thirty years of winning, BT,” C-Mac said. “As we watch 25 years of nothing basketball in this entire city…the Mets, if they ever went back-to-back to the playoffs, we’d throw parties about it.
“Look around this city. Thirty years. They just had the ugliest, most disgusting, worst season in my lifetime and Cashman’s career, and it was two games over .500.”
C-Mac himself has said that he wouldn’t have argued against moving on from Cashman and Aaron Boone to get a new mindset into the organization, but that doesn’t mean Cashman is a bad general manager, especially when considering how consistently competitive the Yankees have been under his watch, despite some recent mistakes he has made.
“I’m not saying he is God and is infallible, but it is not as easy as people think,” C-Mac said. “Go ask other GMs around baseball and see if they think Cashman has been resting on his laurels.
“Every single year, I know come August, September, October, I’m in it…I think you are nuts to not be happy with Brian Cashman.”
