BT is tired of 'free passes' given to struggling Yankees

The Yankees continue to struggle after losing their fifth in a row on Sunday, and Brandon Tierney is tired of their slumping contributors continuing to see significant playing time.

“There’s too many free passes on the New York Yankees,” BT said. “First of all, I know [Joey] Gallo’s gone, we wish him well…but Gallo played far too often without merit. Aaron Hicks plays far too often without merit. Josh Donaldson bats in the middle of the order too much without merit. Some of these relievers don’t belong here. They’re getting a chance to pitch without merit. That is an issue for the 2022 Yankees.”

BT says the situation is much, much different from their crosstown foes, who are experiencing much different vibes over in Queens after taking four or five from the defending champion Braves.

“Buck has everything situated,” BT said. “Everything is normalized and there’s a flow. At the end of the day, the Yankees might not be good enough to do whatever we want them to be able to do, but the free passes have to stop.

“Hicks was 0-for-33 at one point and he’s still rolling him out there. Are you kidding me? Donaldson…his power numbers are still abysmal, and Donaldson, despite a lack of efficiency, is still batting third or fourth. Why?”

Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Josh Donaldson, and Aaron Hicks are fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, on the team in total plate appearances this season, and the highest OPS of the trio belongs to Donaldson, at .687. Gallo is ninth on the team in plate appearances, finishing his Yankee season with a .621 OPS. BT says it’s time to start finding replacements who will contribute more, whether that be from the bench or in the minor league ranks.

“This may be an old school mentality, but I still subscribe to the notion of, ‘If you’re not doing your job you shouldn’t get rewarded,” BT said.
