BT lists (several) key unknowns Yankees will face in 2023: 'Legitimate questions'

With spring training games starting this weekend, it was time for Tiki and Tierney to turn their focus towards the 2023 baseball season.

Both New York teams enter the year with high expectations, but for the Yankees, BT says they come into the season loaded with question marks.

“The Yankees have significantly more questions than the Mets do,” BT said. “But the Yankees have a significantly easier path to October.”

What questions do the Yanks face as spring training action gets underway? BT had them all prepared and ready to be rattled off, and it was quite the list.

“Can Stanton play the outfield regularly? Can LeMahieu stay healthy? What’s Hicks’ role? What’s Donaldson’s role?”

Tiki was confident that Donaldson will be the team’s everyday third baseman, and would be closer to his 2021 self than his disappointing 2022 performance, to which BT agreed (though he was much lower on Stanton’s outfield outlook than Tiki).

“I’m bullish on his bounceback myself,” BT said of Donaldson.

Still, there were plenty of other questions.

“Which kids emerge? It’s a huge question,” BT said. “Can Carlos Rodon handle New York? We don’t know yet. Can he stay healthy? I think so…but until we see it, it’s a legitimate question.

“Who is the closer? Can Sevy stay healthy?”

So, the Yankees will clearly have a lot that needs to be answered in 2023, and that is before getting to their most important player.

“Not to mention the focus on if Judge and/or Cortes can replicate their seasons from a year ago,” BT said.
