After Anthony Rizzo was benched for Sunday’s series finale against the Dodgers, BT went off on the Yankees struggling first baseman.
“I’m done with Rizzo…he cannot be playing first base in October,” BT said. “If I have to see Rizzo drop his back shoulder once more and pop it up to short center, sky it up in foul territory, or pop it up to shortstop. He’s done.”
Rizzo is batting a feeble .224 with a .623 OPS this season, which would easily be his worst season since first coming into the league back in 2011. His fielding has also taken a dip this season, and BT is convinced that the soon-to-be 35-year-old is done as a productive big leaguer, and the Yankees can’t afford to try and ride it out with him when there are World Series aspirations this season.
“Anthony Rizzo is finished,” BT said. “He is fried as a productive, middle-of-the-order player. And he’s not even the defensive player that he used to be.”
