Just when BT thought he was out, the Yankees have pulled him back in.
A sweep of the Astros in Houston, fueled by the team’s youth movement, has BT believing that maybe, just maybe, the Yanks have a pulse in terms of making a run at the final Wild Card spot.
“I’m sucked in. How could you not be?” BT said. “If you’re truly a Yankee fan, you can’t tell me you’re not sitting there now saying, ‘Well, they’ve won five of six, they got the Tigers coming up, Cole on the mound tonight.’ They’ve got 25 games to go. If the Mets can blow a seven game lead with 17 to go, why can’t the Yankees make up a deficit of eight games with 25 to go?
“They’ve got a little bit of a shot to make a Wild Card here, but they’re just fun…kids are running, guys are ripping balls in the gap. It’s crisp, it’s dynamic, it’s athletic. I’m excited.”
Sure, it’s a long shot, perhaps even longer than a long shot, but BT says there is at least some hope that the kids can spark an improbable run to the playoffs, and if not, they at least can provide hope for the future.
“For the first time in a while,” BT said. “It feels like they have some semblance of a plan.”
