BT has been bullish on the Yankees offseason since trading for Juan Soto, but after watching the Orioles make a splash for Corbin Burnes on Thursday night, he has soured on Brian Cashman’s performance this winter.
“Cashman is evidently still in hibernation in the cave with the rest of the bears,” BT said. “It’s OK to come out of your slumber while a team in your division just got somebody that you can really use.
“I was pissed…I’m not saying they gave up scrubs, but man, Cashman missed this one…Are you telling me there wasn’t some deal the Yankees couldn’t make to top this deal?”
BT had been holding out hope that Burnes would be a potential trade deadline move this summer, and instead, he will spend a full season with a division rival that finished 19 games ahead of the Yanks last season.
It’s enough to change the narrative around the offseason that was supposed to be all in.
“This is grossly disappointing,” BT said. “I need to know, was Cashman even involved? I don’t have any confidence that he was…if he was, he probably held onto his prospects like he always does…meanwhile 99 percent of these guys stink and never pan out.
“I still think they will be very, very good. But understand what’s happened in two days here. The Orioles got sold from a guy who never spend a penny…they now have ownership that is possessed to win. Then they make this monstrous trade.”
