Gerrit Cole is heading for an MRI on his pitching elbow, as Aaron Boone told reporters that the Yankee ace is not bouncing back from his spring outings the way he typically does.
Cole, one of the most durable pitchers in baseball over the last five-plus years, is one of the most important players on the roster when it comes to New York achieving its lofty goals in 2024. With that in mind, BT says the season could be going down the tubes in March depending on those MRI results.
“That is the last thing you want to see today,” BT said. “The only way you recover from this is if you get Blake Snell and somebody else.”
But, even if the Yanks add a big-name starter, and another pitcher, if the MRI doesn’t go well, New York would lose the reigning AL Cy Young winner, who BT and Sal agree is irreplaceable.
“Nestor has been rocked. Rodon has been rocked. Clarke Schmidt has been rocked,” BT said. “This needs to go favorably for the Yankees, or their season is done.”
Sal would “panic” and “pivot” to Snell, as he believes no acquisition will make up for the loss of Cole.
There’s no recovering from this,” Sal said. “You can’t get excited for anything with New York sports! This is the one you can’t have right now.”
