'Buckmas in the Bronx!' Sal says Yankees need Buck Showalter to replace Aaron Boone

Sal Licata opened Tuesday’s show with the elixir for the scuffling Yankees’ issues.

No, not to turn things around this season and salvage their vanishing playoff chances, but for the long haul, Sal believes one staff change can get the franchise back on track.

“There might be one of the great managers of all time available due to the failures of the Mets,” Sal said. “Buckmas in the Bronx! Buck Showalter is the guy the Yankees need.

“The Mets are going nowhere this year, and in all likelihood…it’s not gonna be a team that is going to legitimately compete for a World Series next year. It does seem like this could be the end of the road for Buck with the Mets. If that’s the case…what if the Yankees actually come to their senses and realize that the change they need was right there in front of them the whole time?”

Showalter, who managed the Yankees in the early 1990s until being replaced by Joe Torre after the 1995 campaign, is under contract with the Mets through next season, but Sal could see the Mets moving on as they continue their rebuild. If that happens, the Yankees need to strike and bring Buck back to the Bronx.

“Buck Showalter knows more about baseball than anybody in the Mets and Yankees organization combined,” Sal said. “The Yankees have needed that kind of person…how about a strong voice that helped build up the Yankees the last time they were good in those dynasty years?

“Maybe it’s not over for Buck just yet.”
