C-Mac: Aaron Boone is 'on an incredible run' with managerial moves this postseason

The Yankees took care of business and once again did enough to win a playoff game despite not playing their best brand of baseball.

For Chris McMonigle, that is a tribute to the manager, who he says continues to push all the right buttons as he has since the postseason began.

“Yeah, this series isn’t over and there’s work to do, but Aaron Boone has had an incredible run here,” C-Mac said. “He has done a great freaking job. Every single decision he’s made has been the right one.”

C-Mac saw Boone on top of his game once again on Tuesday night, especially in his bullpen deployment, which has been near flawless through six games so far.

“You go to clay Holmes in that spot in the fifth inning, to finish off that inning…In every single game, when the game is on the line and the tying runs are on base, Clay Holmes is brought in by the manager who massaged this thing, not only during the playoffs, but down the stretch of the season when everyone had given up on this guy,” C-Mac said.

“Tim Hill comes in and gets you five outs in this game. Five outs! To keep it where it was and shut down that rally. The way [Boone] has handled that bullpen is impeccable.”

C-Mac also credited Boone for going back to Anthony Rizzo at first base, and for looking like he has thoroughly outclassed Stephen Vogt in the opposing dugout through two games of this series.

“Vogt has had a great rookie season as manager for the Guardians…but Cleveland managed this game like they couldn’t afford to lose it,” C-Mac said. “Like they can’t go back home for three games down 2-0. Like they were playing a far better team, and couldn’t wait to use their pinch hitter Fry.

“He managed in panic mode.”
