C-Mac: Anthony Rizzo likely headed for platoon or bench role with Yankees
A caller declared to C-Mac that the Yankees can’t exile Anthony Rizzo from the lineup, not while he is best friends with Aaron Judge or while he has been said to make those around him better in the field.
C-Mac doesn’t see Rizzo making anyone better in the field right now, not with how his defense has been this season.
“I’m sorry, you can’t tell me that his presence on the field helps the Yankees,” C-Mac said. “Whatever Rizzo is saying to [Gleyber] Torres, it ain’t helping.
“I like Anthony Rizzo…I’m not saying DFA him. He’ll probably be on this team at some level. I don’t think they’re going to bring in an all-world first baseman to take his job completely. I think Rizzo will get his playing time, but I think it will be in a platoon or maybe even a bench role.”
Rizzo was benched for the second straight night on Tuesday, as he currently holds what would be the worst OPS of his career since first coming into the majors in 2011. C-Mac says his friendship with Judge plays no role in how he will be used, and is convinced that Judge himself doesn’t care what the decision is, as long as it helps the team win.
“You can’t continually throw out a player who is this bad. It’s an issue,” C-Mac said. “I don’t care who his best friend is, or who his dog hangs out with at the ballpark.”
