C-Mac calls out critics of Juan Soto swinging at 3-0 pitch to end rally

Juan Soto had a shot at coming through big for the Yankees on Sunday afternoon when he worked a 3-0 count with the bases loaded and one out. But the Yankee superstar swung away on 3-0 with Aaron Judge on deck, and smoked a hard ground ball that ended in an inning-ending double play.

Many fans lamented Soto swinging away after Shane Baz had just thrown seven straight balls, but C-Mac didn’t want to hear that complaint.

“I don’t want to hear it. Sometimes, things just happen,” C-Mac said. “Juan Soto has been great. Don’t tell me ‘what is he doing swinging with a 3-0 count?’

“He gets a 3-0 count and hits a bullet that turns into a double play. If you want to get on Juan Soto for swinging 3-0, other call another show or call me and get yelled at.”

C-Mac says Soto gets criticized far too often for looking for walks instead of looking to do damage with the bat, so there should be no complaining about a hitter as disciplined as Soto looking to take advantage of a pitch that has plenty of plate while the Yanks are looking to finally break through with runners on.

“All we ever talk about is ‘The guy is looking for walks,’” C-Mac said. “He’s one of two hitters who can do anything in this lineup. Just ask Luis Severino. If he believes he’s got a cookie 3-0, you swing at it. he did the same thing against Toronto 2-3 weeks ago and hit a home run…that was a huge home run. if Soto likes a pitch, you try and do damage.”
