As Jazz Chisholm wears No. 13 in pinstripes, C-Mac can’t help but wonder why any Yankee is wearing that number.
If C-Mac was running the organization, No. 13 would be in Monument Park to commemorate the career of Alex Rodriguez.
“Yes, Jazz Chisholm is now wearing No. 13, the second Yankee to wear it since Alex Rodriguez…but I’m sorry, I find it hard to believe how many people don’t think Alex Rodriguez’s number should be retired,” C-Mac said.
“I get the Yankees won’t do it, whether it’s the lawsuit or the suspension…even though he ended up working for them a little bit after he retired, the relationship there is not good, and I get why. He did a lot of dumb things.”
Rodriguez had his feuds with the team itself, had his share of trouble with PED related suspensions, and a long history of playoff struggles. But his redemption performance in 2009 to go along with his gaudy numbers across his time in pinstripes is enough to earn the honor in the eyes of C-Mac, even if plenty of fans disagree.
“Alex Rodriguez was there for 13 seasons,” C-Mac said. “He won two MVPs. He played a Gold Glove caliber third base. He hit 351 home runs, drove in 1,000 runs. Had a career OPS of .900, and won a championship. And he didn’t just win one. He was the sole reason.
“If it weren’t for Alex Rodriguez, we would be talking about the 24th season since the Yankees won a World Series.”
