C-Mac: Carlos Rodon looking like pitcher Yankees paid for

Carlos Rodon tossed six strong innings on Tuesday night, not allowing an earned run while striking out six against the Marlins in an eventual 3-2 victory.

Rodon’s defense failed him late, allowing two runs to score, but neither were charged to the lefty, who saw his season ERA drop to 1.72 in three starts.

It was another strong outing that has C-Mac excited for what’s to come for the $162 million lefty.

“Carlos Rodon is looking like the pitcher they paid for last year. He has stepped up and looks really good,” C-Mac said. “The fastball is a 97-98 at times…The fastball is there, the slider is there. He had swing and misses on changeups…the pitch mix is so much better than it was last year.”

Rodon’s debut season in New York was derailed by injury, and he looked awful once he finally returned. But with a full offseason and spring training, he looks like a different pitcher, and C-Mac loves what he sees.

“I thought he had a chronic back injury. I guess he’s just way past it…He looks great!” C-Mac said. “He looked really good in this game…I know it’s a lousy Miami team, but this wasn’t his first start of the season. He has an ERA under 2.00.”
