C-Mac: Carlos Rodon 'back to being one of the best pitchers in baseball'
After Carlos Rodon shined again on Monday and quieted a potent Royals lineup in their own ballpark, C-Mac had to give flowers to the lefty for the incredible bounceback season he is currently enjoying.
“This pitching is terrific, and Carlos Rodon is an ace,” C-Mac said. “They have two aces in the rotation right now, and Gerrit Cole isn’t one of them yet. That’s how good this pitching staff has been.
“Watch the man work. He’s in so much better shape than he was last year. He throws strikes. He’s pounding the zone, getting swings and misses on the slider again…this is a guy right now that is back to being one of the best pitchers in baseball.”
Rodon went seven innings while allowing just one run, while former big-league castoff Michael Tonkin came on for the save to drop his season ERA with the Yankees to 0.89, which C-Mac says is yet another reason to bow down to pitching coach Matt Blake.
“You want to talk about giving it to Matt Blake and this Yankees pitching contingent that continues to find guys,” C-Mac said. “Sure, I don’t know how I feel about [Ian] Hamilton right now, and I don’t know how I’ll feel about Tonkin…but to have him come in - he’s been DFA’d by two different teams three different times - came to the Yankees with a 5.00 ERA, and completely turned his season around.”
