Amid reports that Gerrit Cole has avoided Tommy John surgery, C-Mac opened Friday morning’s show in a celebratory mood as he let out a big sigh of relief.
“Thank you! Thank you! I can sleep again, and not worry about rolling over and hearing the devastating news that Cole needs surgery and is out for the year,” C-Mac said. “It’s over! I’m probably speaking too soon, but it’s over for now.”
Cole will still miss 1-2 months, but the worst-case scenario has seemingly been avoided, and C-Mac says that is a cause for excitement.
“I was never more excited in my life, because this is the Yankees’ season! Is it not?” C-Mac said. “None of that made sense without Gerrit Cole, and at least it sounds like it’s not going to be a devastating injury where he misses the whole season.”
