C-Mac more confident than ever in Yankees signing Juan Soto after Hal Steinbrenner comments
After hearing the comments Hal Steinbrenner made at the MLB owners meetings on Wednesday, Chris McMonigle is convinced that the Yankees are going to do whatever it takes to keep Juan Soto in the Bronx.
Steinbrenner told reporters that the Yankees are capable of signing whomever they want, and Steinbrenner even said that he knows “what’s expected” of him as the owner of the most valuable franchise in the sport. With that in mind, C-Mac says he is feeling better than ever about Soto signing with the Yanks long term.
“I have never, ever been more confident or felt better about the Yankees signing Juan Soto than I do right now,” C-Mac said. “It doesn’t mean they will…we all understand the threat that presides on the other side of town.
We know Philadelphia is meeting with them and they have money…who knows what will happen? But I have never felt more confident that the Yankees mean business than I do today.
“If you could read what Hal Steinbrenner said in any other way than I’m about to give it to you, then you’re gonna have to call me up…there’s only one way to read it. And that is, ‘I understand it, and if I don’t, that’s on me.’”
Steinbrenner’s comments come with an added pressure to sign Soto, but C-Mac says Steinbrenner would have known that before making those comments on Wednesday, so they should be taken seriously, as it shows that the Yankees mean business when it comes to Soto.
“Hal Steinbrenner just put a target on his back…what he said here in talking about ‘We can sign any player that we want,’ he doesn’t have to say any of this,” C-Mac said.
“Hal didn’t have to say anything. Steve Cohen didn’t speak after his meeting with Juan Soto…and the things that were said eliminate every previous conversation…Hal Steinbrenner came out and said he doesn’t care about the payroll in previous years.”
