C-Mac couldn't believe Juan Soto's bunt attempt on 3-0 pitch
C-Mac knew Tuesday’s Subway Series opener wasn’t going to go well after Juan Soto squared to bunt on a 3-0 pitch in the first inning, and actually tried to drop it down.
Some hitters just flash bunt on 3-0 as a mind game with the pitcher, but Soto actually going for the bunt with a runner on in the first set C-Mac off.
“I love Juan Soto. Love him. Want him to be here, want him to get paid,” C-Mac said. “You know what is unacceptable for a future Hall of Famer, for a guy in a middle of a lineup that is struggling? You’re telling me, on a 3-0 count, our premier player, the Lou Gehrig to Aaron Judge’s Babe Ruth is bunting 3-0??
“He thought it was 2-0? From that moment, when Juan Soto actually laid down a bunt…I knew right then and there, that moment right there pissed me off to a level that is really unreasonable for that situation.”
The pitch clock violation earlier in the at-bat could have caused Soto to lose track of the count, but either way, C-Mac does not want to see one of the Yankees biggest bats looking to bunt with a runner on to start the game, especially with how the offense has been struggling of late.
“How in the world is he bunting?” C-Mac said. “I don’t care if the third baseman is holding hands with the left fielder. You cannot bunt there.”
