C-Mac explains reason for optimism with Giancarlo Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton, after looking lost at the plate to start the season, has homered twice in the last two games, including a no-doubt grand slam in Sunday’s win over the Blue Jays in the Bronx.

Stanton cranked the grand slam off the facing of the second deck in left field, less than 24 hours after shooting an opposite-field home run over the short porch in right field. It’s enough to have C-Mac hopeful that Stanton still has something to provide the Yankees after all.

“If he’s ever what he was, or is even close to the player he was in his MVP season for Miami, or even in 2018 in his first year with the Yankees…then this Yankee lineup is dynamic,” C-Mac said. “It makes it much deeper.”

What makes C-Mac even more hopeful about that possibility is the fact that Stanton seems to be on top of high-velocity pitches in recent games, where at the beginning of the season, he looked completely overmatched.

“Giancarlo swinging at sliders in the dirt is not his problem. He’s done that his entire career,” C-Mac said. “He’s one of those guys…if you look at Vladimir Guerrero, he would have terrible swings. He would look foolish a lot…it’s a flaw and something I wish he would change, but it’s not gonna change…Giancarlo’s problem is, he can’t catch up to high velocity fastballs.

“What we’ve seen the last few days is pulled hard fastballs.
That is a major positive for Giancarlo Stanton.”
