A caller declared that he, as a Mets fan, wants no part of Juan Soto in the offseason, claiming that the young star is a “one dimensional player” who is one of the worst fielders and baserunners in all of baseball.
C-Mac was ready to retort.
“He’s not one dimensional. Every single hit tool,” C-Mac said. “He gets on base better than anybody, he can pop 40 home runs. Is David Ortiz beloved in Boston? Do you think the Red Sox were better off not keeping David Ortiz?
“He’s already won a World Series. He dominated in the World Series. The home run he hit off Justin Verlander still hasn’t landed yet.”
The caller countered that Soto prefers to draw walks than drive hits, and C-Mac fired back with one of the best hitters of all time.
“Then you didn’t want Barry Bonds, because Barry Bonds would have done the same thing,” C-Mac said. “He wouldn’t swing out of the strike zone with a runner on second.”
Puzzlingly, the caller used Soto’s young age as a reason to not sign him to a long-term deal, which C-Mac couldn’t understand.
“He’s 25 years old! You’re using that as a negative!” C-Mac said. “Theoretically, he can get more power. Who cares about baserunning? He hits home runs and get on base more than any other player in the league!”
