As the Yankees continue to scuffle, most recently losing another blowout game to the rival Mets, voices from some corners of the fanbase grow louder when it comes to the fate of manager Aaron Boone.
Many fans want Boone gone, and want to see a major shakeup to hopefully awake a team that has looked dormant for nearly two months. If it were to happen, C-Mac wouldn’t fight it, but he also doesn’t believe a managerial change would bring about the desired outcome.
The players would need to be changed for that change to happen.
“I don’t put a lot of blame on Boone’s plate for this. I look at this roster, and the lineup stinks,” C-Mac said. “I don’t think it’s Aaron Boone’s fault. The roster isn’t any good.
“I look at the roster and I don’t see anyone that’s any good. I don’t know what you want him to do.”
C-Mac admits that Boone has had his missteps, most notably the failure to continue to develop the Baby Bombers after their breakout 2017 campaign under Joe Girardi. But to say that firing Boone now would suddenly breathe new life into a team that largely supports Boone, C-Mac doesn’t see it, nor does he believe the George Steinbrenner approach would be an effective one.
“There is no doubt in my mind that George Steinbrenner would fire Aaron Boone today,” C-Mac said. “But how much did 17 managers in 16 years help the Yankees?”
