C-Mac: Gerrit Cole gem a reminder that he has been 'money' for Yankees in playoffs

After a shaky start in game one, Gerrit Cole dominated when the Yanks needed him most, allowing just one run and no walks over seven innings to lead the Bombers to a series-clinching victory in game four on Thursday night.

Chris McMonigle says Cole showed who he really is on Thursday, and who he has been for the Yanks for nearly his entire postseason career, despite what some fans may have told themselves after game one.

“Gerrit Cole gave the Yankees what he typically gives the Yankees,” C-Mac said. “I don’t want to hear ‘He’s not an ace, he was bad in game one.’ We know the layoff made a difference. We understand the layoff and the nine days they didn’t play, and what It mean for Gerrit Cole. And we know what this guy does consistently, whether you go back to the Cleveland series in 2022 or the Tampa Bay series in 2020.”

Cole owns a 3.38 postseason ERA with the Yanks, with one dud sprinkled in against Boston in 2021 when he was battling a bum hamstring. For C-Mac, there were way too many Cole doubters after game one, and game four should serve as a reminder that New York has a legit ace to lean on going forward in October.

“Other than the Wild Card Game against the Red Sox in 2021 and game one of this series, Gerrit Cole has been a money pitcher for the Yankees,” C-Mac said. “And he did it again in a virtuoso performance.”
