EJ in East Meadow got into a heated debate with C-Mac after C-Mac said he would easily take Gleyber Torres over Jeff McNeil on his team.
“Gleyber Torres’ offensive year last year is as good or better than anything Jeff McNeil has ever done,” C-Mac said. “You mention track record. Last year, Jeff McNeil hit .270, had an OPS of .711. Gleyber Torres hit 25 home runs. Had an OPS of 89 points better.”
EJ pointed to McNeil’s batting title in 2022 and his defensive versatility, but C-Mac noted the drastic drop-off from McNeil since 2022, and his lack of offensive firepower outside of batting average, while Torres at least has a track record of pop that can give some power when he’s going right.
“OPS is on-base percentage plus slugging! I can’t have this argument with you,” C-Mac said. “Over the last year, Gleyber Torres has been a far better player than Jeff McNeil. They’ve both been terrible this year…what I’m saying is, Brian Cashman will have to pick and choose what problems to fix with this team. He can’t fix them all.”
