C-Mac has problem with Yankee players starting to echo Aaron Boone talk
C-Mac has been a defender of Aaron Boone for much of his managerial tenure, but he is starting to see some signs that some of the skipper’s messaging is bleeding into what his players say publicly, and that is becoming harder to defend.
As the Yankees continue to stumble through this extended malaise, C-Mac says he is hearing far too many players talk as if it is nothing more than a blip on the radar, and things will get turned around.
“Now I am tired of some of the things I’m hearing,” C-Mac said. “Not so much from Aaron Boone. I get that he’s gonna defend his players. But when it starts to really rub off on the players at this level, even I have to perk an eye up and say ‘Well this is absolute nonsense.
“What you can’t do when you’re Nestor Cortes, and you’ve been dominant at home and one of the worst pitchers in baseball on the road, you can’t go out there and spit the bit the way he did, and then after the game, say the same crap.”
Cortes heard some criticism during the All-Star Game when he posted on X a defense of his Yankees and how they are the team everyone wants to emulate, and he is grateful for having a shot at the World Series every year. C-Mac didn’t have much issue with that, but he has had enough with players shrugging off this horrid stretch as if it is something that will simply correct itself.
“I don’t care about Boone defending players…but I am gonna get on him when we continue to hear the same crap from the players too,” C-Mac said. “When Marcus Stroman said today, ‘we’re not playing the way we’re supposed to play. I don’t expect this to last long.’ Don’t expect this to last long? Are we not aware of what’s going on? Are you aware that you are now 9-20 over the last 29 games, and only the White Sox are worse than you? Are you aware that you turned a season where you hit the 50-win mark in the middle of June, and are now three games in the loss column away from missing the playoffs?
“It’s one thing for the manager to defend his players publicly. It’s another for players to make it seem like they’re unaware of the situation they’re in. you want to get on Aaron Boone? Let’s do it, because that’s where I have a problem.”
