Anthony Volpe has been named a Gold Glove finalist at the shortstop position, but C-Mac isn’t sure if the rookie will be the Yankees’ long-term answer at the position.
The moves the Bombers make this offseason will go a long way in determining that.
“Here’s the problem for the New York Yankees. He’s not the best shortstop on the team,” C-Mac said. “I think it’s clear, most people being fair would tell you, Oswald Peraza is a better shortstop than Anthony Volpe.
“If they do not include Oswald Peraza in a trade this offseason, I think there’s a chance that both of them are everyday infielders, because I think there’s a good chance they trade Gleyber Torres.”
If Peraza and Volpe are on the roster next season, and Torres is out, C-Mac says it would bring up a tricky dilemma for the Yankees, who would have to decide who plays short, and who plays second.
“The question is, if that’s the scenario, who plays short?” C-Mac said. “It’s not that Volpe couldn’t handle it. It’s about what’s best for the team building through these guys…it’s an interesting dilemma they find themselves in.”
