The Yankees announced Wednesday that Domingo German will enter inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse, and with Nestor Cortes on his way back from a rehab assignment, the lefty will take German’s spot in the rotation moving forward.
C-Mac believes that is a mistake, and Cortes should be taking Luis Severino’s spot, with any other option serving as a better alternative to take the spot vacated by German.
“I understand German is now no longer with the team…and it throws a bunch of issues into the rotation, but I don’t care. I’m sorry. Luis Severino should not be in the rotation moving forward,” C-Mac said. “Nestor Cortes is coming back. Throw Brito again. I’m not kidding. Bring up Vasquez, or throw a bullpen game…Severino has pitched his way out of this rotation, and yet here we go again.”
Severino has been lit up this season, and told reporters after his last outing that he felt like the worst pitcher in the league. The Yankees continue to try and get the former All-Star back to form, assured that he is healthy, but nothing has worked. C-Mac says the team is in too important of a stretch to allow Severino to figure things out in game action.
“In the biggest games of the year, you’re still throwing pitchers who have no idea what’s going on,” C-Mac said. “You’re trying to build momentum…and the Yankees are throwing a pitcher who can’t get out of the first inning.”
