C-Mac wants to see the Yankees have a big offseason and prove that they are serious about getting back to real contention, but there is one particular star where, if they miss out, he may not be able to forgive those responsible.
If the Yanks watch Juan Soto get traded to another team, C-Mac’s support of Hal Steinbrenner will be out the window.
“You need superstars. If he’s traded to anywhere else, that would be by far the biggest indictment on Hal Steinbrenner,” C-Mac said. “I guess on Brian Cashman - it’s a trade - but I would view it as, I can’t imagine Brian Cashman and the Yankees not being willing to give up the prospects it would take…to me, the thought process would be Hal Steinbrenner saying ‘I can’t pay him that contract, don’t give up anything of significance for a guy of one year.’
“My tune will change on the New York Yankees so fast, your head will spin. You think I’m this Yankees shill? No more. If he is traded anywhere else, I don’t care where it is.”
There would be other outfield options available should Soto go elsewhere, like a Cody Bellinger. But Soto is young and a proven star, and if he is made available, the Yankees have to get him.
“That is the one guy I am not messing around with,” C-Mac said.
