An angry Yankee fan called into the show and opined to C-Mac that the Yankees no longer prioritize winning, and C-Mac had to cut in and counter that argument.
“That’s absolutely ridiculous. I think that comment is absolutely ridiculous,” C-Mac said.
“It’s World Series or [Brian Cashman] has done absolutely nothing. I get it. Same thing with Hal Steinbrenner…if it’s not about winning when they go out and give $360 million to keep Aaron Judge, why did they go out and give another almost $200 million to [Carlos] Rodon? If it’s not about winning, and they just won 99 games and played in the ALCS with almost the exact same team with Aaron Judge, if he didn’t care about getting better, why spend another almost $200 million on Rodon?”
C-Mac says there is clear evidence that the Yankees are willing to spend big, and while you can criticize the quality of moves they have made in recent years, the willingness to spend goes back years.
“In 2019, they win 100-plus games, win the division, lose again in six games to the Astros in the ALCS. What does he do? He steals their ace…and they gave him the biggest contract any starting pitcher has ever got,” C-Mac said. “Why would he do that to a team that just won 100 games and played in the ALCS if he doesn’t care about winning?”
