C-Mac pushes back on complaint that Yankees 'play down to their competition'
C-Mac was obviously not happy with the Yankees getting blown out by the putrid White Sox on Monday night, but he doesn’t want to hear the complaint that the Yanks don’t consistently bring their best when they’re taking on bad teams.
“I love all the people telling me that they play down to their competition…the first two months, all we heard was that their fantastic record was built on beating and teams,” C-Mac said. “Their fantastic record was BS, and all they do is beat up on bad teams. That’s all we heard.
“Now, they lose, and they play down to their competition. Here’s the bottom line: don’t freaking lose.”
C-Mac doesn’t agree that the Yankees take their foot off the gas against the bottom feeders of the league, because if that were the case, they would be out of the division race by now.
“When the Yankees play poorly, they lose to everybody. When they play well, they beat everybody,” C-Mac said. “That’s why, even with how awful they’ve played in the last two months, they find themselves with one of the best records in baseball.
“I really don’t want to hear about playing down to their opponent, because all they did for two months was beat up on bad opponents, and we used it against them.”
A major complaint about Monday’s loss specifically was that fans don’t believe the Yankees showed any life, which C-Mac also pushed back against.
“It’s also tough for me to take, ‘they don’t care,’” C-Mac said. “They’ve had lifeless games…it is not lifeless when you put 20 games on and have nine hits.”
